The Short Toed Lark is a regular breeding bird in Malta It is a regular breeder in Gozo and Comino while in Malta it is more localized. In spring it arrives in March and stays until October. In Malta they breed in large open tracts of garrigue such as Dwejra, Xaghra il-Hamra. The Short Toed Lark also breeds in the runway fields.
